Magical Shoes Alaskan

Magical Shoes Alaskan: Winter is a time when we think of thick, heavy gear that protects us from the elements. But how much protection do you really need, even with barefoot footwear? You can do winter in a pair of minimalist boots instead. Read on to find out how.

Magical Shoe sent me these shoes for review, but I am the sole owner of my thoughts.

Technical Specifications of magical shoes alaskan

Upper: Two types of leather (the main portion of the upper is smooth and the trim has a suede-like feel).

Lining: Wool with a membrane hydrophobic

Sole: Magical Rubber Trek non-slip 7 mm

In many cases, product photos are brightened to make them appear more vibrant, but they also appear lighter than the actual color. My pictures show the true color of my pair. Black reflects everything around it. I have tried to make the photos as realistic as possible.

Company

Magical Shoes, a Polish company founded on a family history of footwear production and repair, is based in Poland. The company produces both vegan and leather shoes. They are all made in Poland using materials from local suppliers and ethical sources.

Appearance

The boot is angled and has a slightly textured leather. The upper is reminiscent of a high-top 80s shoe. It looks great with leggings, jeans and other winter pants. Magical’s website calls the trim velour, but it feels more like suede.

I have heard about the large logo on the side. It’s been suggested that you use a Sharpie, or another permanent marker on the area that is light colored. I think that will work. According to what I can see, there is leather underneath the logo. However, I believe the upper seam of the logo is a part of the upper construction. Therefore, removing it by hand is not recommended.

Are Magical Shoes Alaskan waterproof?

This is a common question when it comes to winterwear. However, this feature may not be necessary depending on your location and what you do. These shoes are not waterproof but they have a hydrophobic membrane. I’ve found that these shoes work well in the snow and do not allow any moisture to get in. Although I haven’t jumped into any puddles. As is usually the case when dealing with natural materials like slush, it would likely find its way through.

How hot are Magical Shoes Alaskan?

Magical claims that you can feel comfortable at temperatures as low as -12degC. I’ve had mine out to -7degC, and they are quite warm. But it’s important to keep moving. Standing still on cold ground with your feet in snow will cause you to feel the snow quickly. If you want to add an insole and size up, note that it will secure your midfoot but will give you extra length. This is something I do occasionally, but it’s a compromise.

How does the traction look?

This boot is the most grippable of all the boots that I have worn this winter in the snow and ice. Rubber tread and flexibility help your foot mold to uneven surfaces. This increases your grip potential and helps you connect with the ice.

However, it’s ice. It’s not possible to walk on ice with 100% accuracy unless you wear inflexible boots that have hard tracks added to them like the Yaktrax. I’m not sure if these tracks are suited for ice, since I’m from a far northern region. You can walk comfortably in these shoes, but it’s important to follow guidelines.

Other shoes are also good for snow, but I prefer these when the conditions are slick.

Fit

These shoes are designed to fit those with more sloping toes. You may want to choose a different size if you have a squared-off foot. Also, keep in mind that there will be extra room between your toes.

I am in the middle of shapes, a mix between what is traditionally called Greek and Roman (I dislike these names but don’t know a better one). I’m sized 1 up from my usual (more on that below). The fit is acceptable, but not ideal.

Only at the ball of my foot do I feel any tightness. The shoes are very flexible but the material available and the shape of uppers contribute to the upper pulling back a little bit, reducing the space available. The simple answer is ‘volume’, but the truth is a bit more complex. People with low or medium volume feet probably wouldn’t even notice.

These shoes are also wide but not the most wide. They would be very wide if they had a more rounded front toe, but I love that their materials are so flexible. The combination of an angled toebox with the pull on the upper makes it tighter around the pinky toe when I wear socks that are heavier. It’s a bit more complex than my usual assessment, but it is the best way to put it.

There is no need to break them in. The shoes are ready to wear right out of their box. Magical has sent the laces untied, so they are easier to wear than usual. This was a nice touch. This is a nice touch.

The zipper makes it possible to slip them on in a matter of seconds after you have adjusted the laces.

Sizing

You should always size your shoes according to your measurements. Your feet may change over time, and the measurements you take will differ depending on whether you’re buying open- or close-toed footwear, as well as what kind of socks you intend to wear. For help and advice, check this article.

Consult the sizing chart of the company once you’ve taken your measurements. Some sizes run longer, others run more typical and still others run shorter compared to the common lengths of different sizes.

I am a person who usually wears a size 43 and a 44 is the right size for me. The 43 would have given me less than one centimeter of extra space, while the size 44 allows for up to 1.2-1.5 centimeters, depending on the socks I wear, which is in the range recommended by this research.

Cleaning

The leather on this upper, which is smooth and supple, is easy to protect and clean. You can use creams and waxes to hydrate the leather. Leather that is dry will seek moisture and absorb water more readily. Visit this page to see a wide range of products, and where I have used them.

You can also find information on suede care on the same page. Although you can wax suede, it will dull down the texture of the leather. Suede is usually sprayed, and the spray should be applied regularly depending on how much it has been used and exposed to.

Hand-cleaning is best, even if leather is protected. Avoid machine washing or drying these shoes. Also, avoid spraying the wool lining. Spray compounds can break down the protective properties of wool, which are based on its fibers and lanolin.

Returns and Purchases

The shoes can be purchased from Magical Shoes and are available in sizes 37-47. They cost EUR145/$155, before the 10% off with code WENDY. They offer worldwide shipping and a 30 day refund policy. PedTerra offers them as well for the US market. My affiliate code OWBSHOES will save you 10% if this is your first purchase.
